Keeping your computers operating system and browsers updated and patched is crucial in keeping it secure and should be your first line of defense against virus infections. Scan your pc for security updates, using either the installed version or online scan. Requires Java runtime.
Cleaning severe spyware / malware infections can be a frustrating process involving multiple time consuming scans and computer reboots. Often the best procedure is to clean by using a special boot cd with antispyware and antivirus programs. Another alternative is to run them in safe mode if possible, some malware programs will prevent the pc from running antispyware / antivirus programs even in safe mode.
Be wary of popup's that tell you that spyware / malware / viruses have been found on your computer and they will remove it if you purchase a license. What you will probably get is more spyware / malware and viruses.
